THE TROPHIES
The Championship offers almost 30 trophies for competiition during the event, 15 are major trophies including
the Champions "News Bowl" for the Men and the "Shoe & Leather News" Lady Champions trophy, additionally
there are 13 regional trophies.
THE WILBUR MUIRHEAD TROPHY for the best Scratch Score.
Presented in 1946 in memory of Wilbur Muirhead a long serving officer of the Championship and past Captain
of the R and A, it was won in 1946 by L E Chamberlain.
THE "BRIDGE OF WEIR" INTERNATIONAL TROPHY.
Presented by Aurthur M Muirhead in 1950. Originallly the Match was between Scotland & England from 1950
to 1967, and was won by England in 1950 and 1951. From 1968 the Match was for the North V South until
1977. 1980 saw the start of the match as England & Wales V Scotland & Ireland.
PARKER CHALLENGE BOWL
Presented by Norvic Shoe Co.Ltd. in 1954 for Founder Members.
THE CHAIRMANS MASHIE
Presented by Geffrey Mawer in 1987 for third place in the Championship, won by D L Barbour in 1987.
THE HUGH DENTON SALVER
Presented in 1981 by Patricia, Charles and David Denton in memory of Hugh, 3 times a winner of the
the Championship in 1959,1967 and 1978. It was won by M J Smedley in 1981.
THE FOOTSURE SALVER
For the Ladies best score on the second day, won in 2002 by Beryl Jones.
THE PUTTING TROPHY
Presented by Alan Mickel in 1989, and won that year by M J Rye.
LOTUS CHALLENGE CUP presented by Lotus Ltd. in 1946.
